Visit to Radio and Television Stations

It was not really my first time to visit a live TV program, I used to visit GMA because my father’s friend work there as the head writer of comedy shows like bubble gang, etc. However, this experience in ABS CBN Showtime was really fun and exciting unlike the other programs I have already visited. Probably because it was my first time to experience watching a live show as an audience. I had a great time participating in the show even though some people especially the guards were strict. They even choreographed our dance moves. The hosts seem nice except for some who looked utterly arrogant. I was quite disappointed because not all the hosts of the show were there like Anne Curtis and Kuya Kim. I was amazed how this live TV program is produced. The media people were very good in what they do. They signal the hosts about the time and guide them when to proceed to a particular action, like for instance, to advance in commenting. They also provide them guides or scripts using a manila paper. Several cameramen were also needed in order for the one directing the show to present variety of angle shots to the viewers which I think is quite complicated.

Script being read by Vhong Navarro.

A signal to Vice Ganda.

We got the chance to take pictures with one of the host, Billy Crawford.

Live television programs are difficult because of the fact that it is live; mistakes should not be committed not just by hosts or actors/actress but also of all the production crew, technical crew, and other media people. Discipline, alertness, and focus are needed in this field.

Missyhista
It was my first time to visit radio stations and I imagined their work as less stressful than in television stations. When I witnessed and interviewed some of the people working there I realized that the degree of pressure was somehow similar to those working in the television stations for the reason that even though there are no visual mediums the challenge is how to make people visualize through words so as to make the announcement or news effective. Words are carefully chosen and how these people talk is more exaggerated than usual. I had fun visiting both love radio and DZBB. I was amazed with missyhista, in love radio, when we witnessed how she does her work. I was astonished with how her personality suddenly changed upon going on air. She talked normal and her voice was not really that loud when she answered our questions but when she got on air she changed. She spontaneously delivered all those words on air after she talked to us. We surrounded her while she was doing her work. I was speechless on how multitasking and professional she can be.

On the other hand, during our visit in DZBB plenty of people were really polite to us. We got the chance to talk to four (4) writers of the DZBB since it was their free time. In comparison to the fm station that we visited, this am station was experiencing a lot of stress based on the descriptions and explanations of the writers that we talked to. I felt at ease and curios as we were lectured on how news is broadcasted. At ease because of the politeness and generosity of the people around. We were given chicken empanadas and burgers. And curios on how the whole thing take place even though they have answered all of our questions. I had fun talking with them; they were really nice and humorous people.

The insights I have gained in this radio tour was that people working in this broadcast media should be fast learners and multitasking. They should also possess the knowledge in this field and spontaneity in broadcasting. News must be relative and useful for the public. Words or terms used must be carefully examined.

I would consider working in television because of the challenge and enhancement of skills that may be obtained upon working in such. Also, immediate feedback can be acquired in television knowing that it is the number one (1) medium in the country.  The advantage of having an immediate feedback is that one’s work is instantaneously criticized thus opening the chance for improvement of one’s skill. I think I would choose to work as a newscaster because I am fond of public speaking although my skills are not yet as proficient as professionals like Jessica Soho, Mike Enriquez, and others. I believe that practice and experience would further enhance my skills.
