My ManilArt Chosen Artworks (2011)

As I look to different artworks from the ManilArt 2011, this sculpture is one my two choices. Personally, I am not that good in appreciating sculpture but this artwork captured my attention. The material used, its colors, its shine, and difference from other sculpture that I’ve seen made me like it. As I imagine how this beautiful artwork is being made, I guess it’s hard because it’s very detailed and extraordinary. The way the woman is portrayed here is usual but special for me. Most of the people say that women are materialistic and shopaholics, for some instance it’s true. On the other angle, the woman on the artwork is graceful and this is also true. I don’t know what the title of this sculpture is, but I guess the artist is a feminist. Because if you look at the artwork, there is no detail that makes it against to women, it shows a typical lady and how gorgeous women are. The orange bag of the woman is also intriguing; I wonder why it has a different color. And the bag looks like an office bag, and I like it. Haha

If I were to make a story and film behind this gorgeous artwork, I will give the title, “She’s Busy”. Why? Let me tell you the story. This woman is a working beautiful single lady, she makes men’s head turn when she walks, she makes everybody love her, but she has a problem with herself.  It’s her workaholic and shopaholic problem. It was the reason why her ex-boyfriend left her and until now, she remains single. She wanted to be in love again, but her work seems to be the hindrance of it. She’s thinking of resigning on her work but imagining herself without money kills her, because she’s also a materialistic woman. And suddenly, a man came to her life and everything changes. Materials don’t matter anymore to her, she realized how important other things in life more, love, friends, time, laughter, boyfriend, family, and other things which cannot be bought by money. I wish my story would fit the artwork. :)

I chose this painting because it looks like real and it’s the reality that’s happening in our world now. The painting is simple but well presented, the colors contrast to each other, the placing of the objects on the painting is clear and I just like it, even a kid can interpret its message. Globalization, modernization, technologies are rising, internet everywhere, etc. Men made these machines and accessibilities for easier communication. Everything is evolving, like technology, and it happens so fast. Men’s ideas are unstoppable, and as time goes by, we become dependent to technology. It becomes our needs not just wants, trends not just accessories and sometimes it matters most in our everyday lives. I chose this painting, it’s realistic, not the type of the painting but the concept itself.

The film that I’m going to make that will be inspired by this painting (if I am to make a film) is entitled “Dependent”. The plot of the story is like this: A teenager, girl, in our modern world is being so dependent on technologies. Everything she does, everywhere she goes, whoever was with her, her personal things (cell phone, i-pod, i-pad, etc.) are always at her side. And it seems like she can’t live without those objects. She can’t sleep without facing her facebook, twitter, yahoo, blogs, formspring, and Gmail accounts while she can even go to school without facing her books! She’s so busy texting and calling her long distance friends without noticing that she’s not giving time anymore to the people around her, like her mother, father and sister. She was so dependent on those things. The problem arises; she lost her relationships with the people who first loved her and her first love ones as well. How sad and dull her world now is! She learned that a balanced life must be her concern. Looking on things equally, and prioritizing the important ones. I guess this film fits for the people especially to the children who are so focused on the newest and hottest technologies. I wish the painter's motive in the artwork relates my story. :)
