My ManilArt Chosen Artworks (2011)

As I look to different artworks from the ManilArt 2011, this sculpture is one my two choices. Personally, I am not that good in appreciating sculpture but this artwork captured my attention. The material used, its colors, its shine, and difference from other sculpture that I’ve seen made me like it. As I imagine how this beautiful artwork is being made, I guess it’s hard because it’s very detailed and extraordinary. The way the woman is portrayed here is usual but special for me. Most of the people say that women are materialistic and shopaholics, for some instance it’s true. On the other angle, the woman on the artwork is graceful and this is also true. I don’t know what the title of this sculpture is, but I guess the artist is a feminist. Because if you look at the artwork, there is no detail that makes it against to women, it shows a typical lady and how gorgeous women are. The orange bag of the woman is also intriguing; I wonder why it has a different color. And the bag looks like an office bag, and I like it. Haha

If I were to make a story and film behind this gorgeous artwork, I will give the title, “She’s Busy”. Why? Let me tell you the story. This woman is a working beautiful single lady, she makes men’s head turn when she walks, she makes everybody love her, but she has a problem with herself.  It’s her workaholic and shopaholic problem. It was the reason why her ex-boyfriend left her and until now, she remains single. She wanted to be in love again, but her work seems to be the hindrance of it. She’s thinking of resigning on her work but imagining herself without money kills her, because she’s also a materialistic woman. And suddenly, a man came to her life and everything changes. Materials don’t matter anymore to her, she realized how important other things in life more, love, friends, time, laughter, boyfriend, family, and other things which cannot be bought by money. I wish my story would fit the artwork. :)

I chose this painting because it looks like real and it’s the reality that’s happening in our world now. The painting is simple but well presented, the colors contrast to each other, the placing of the objects on the painting is clear and I just like it, even a kid can interpret its message. Globalization, modernization, technologies are rising, internet everywhere, etc. Men made these machines and accessibilities for easier communication. Everything is evolving, like technology, and it happens so fast. Men’s ideas are unstoppable, and as time goes by, we become dependent to technology. It becomes our needs not just wants, trends not just accessories and sometimes it matters most in our everyday lives. I chose this painting, it’s realistic, not the type of the painting but the concept itself.

The film that I’m going to make that will be inspired by this painting (if I am to make a film) is entitled “Dependent”. The plot of the story is like this: A teenager, girl, in our modern world is being so dependent on technologies. Everything she does, everywhere she goes, whoever was with her, her personal things (cell phone, i-pod, i-pad, etc.) are always at her side. And it seems like she can’t live without those objects. She can’t sleep without facing her facebook, twitter, yahoo, blogs, formspring, and Gmail accounts while she can even go to school without facing her books! She’s so busy texting and calling her long distance friends without noticing that she’s not giving time anymore to the people around her, like her mother, father and sister. She was so dependent on those things. The problem arises; she lost her relationships with the people who first loved her and her first love ones as well. How sad and dull her world now is! She learned that a balanced life must be her concern. Looking on things equally, and prioritizing the important ones. I guess this film fits for the people especially to the children who are so focused on the newest and hottest technologies. I wish the painter's motive in the artwork relates my story. :)

I Felt So Close to My Dreams

Our group's first stop was "Showtime" at ABS-CBN, I felt so excited before we go there because I will now see my idols like Vhong Navarro, Billy Crawford, Ryan Bang, Vice Ganda and many more celebreties! But when we arrived there and met the security guards, I was disappointed because they are not warm or hospitable. They are so strict to the point that I don't appreciate our visit there. But that's not our purpose of going there, we went there to observe and have some ideas how a live TV program is being shoot and how is it produced. :)

It's Showtime!!

A live TV show like Showtime is a little more difficult for me to produce. First, they have to be ready on-air, both actors and staff. Secondly, they have to be time conscious. Thirdly, everything must be in order. And it is more tiring for the studio audience, everything is scripted. But I honor that because that will make the show better and interesting when the home viewers see how lively the people there are! It's hard to produce, I said to myself. While observing, I also realized that the other staffs, not just the actors or stars, make every show successful. Everybody's important there, teamwork is a must!

Love Radio <3
Let's go to the FM studio tour now, actually, we visited 4 FM studios (Love Radio, Yes FM, Easy Rock and Brgy. LS) but our group's focus is the LOVE RADIO. The DJ we met there is Missy Hista (but her real name is Ms. Thea). When I listen to Love Radio and I hear her, my impression is that she's palengkera and naughty. But when I met and interviewed her personally, I was shocked because she's a fine lady, well-educated and intellegent. She's just creating n image of a palengkera and a little bit green minded lady in radio for the sake of her "work". I've learned that being a DJ in a radio doesn't mean that you're just a talent, they say that they're also regular employees there. What a revelation I've learned! :D I also realized that they don't have a lot of vacations and free time as a DJs. In Love Radio, they only have the Holy Week as their vacation and the rest (like Christmas), they still have to work. But they said that they love their work and they love what they're doing. :)

Now, let's talk about our tour at the GMA Network studios. The people there are so nice and warm, even the security guards and artists. In fact, when we're inside the booth of DZBB, Kuya Germs gace us Empanada. Our mission there is to go to their AM Studio, DZBB. We met Kuya Germs and Sir Joel (some reporters of  DZBB). We also met the four news writers of DZBB (Ms. Julianne, Mr. Nico, Mr. Mico and Mr. Archie). We spent almost an hour with them, interviewing them and they also told stories to us about their work as a writers in an AM station. One of them said to us that, "in media, we're not playing here", this statement strikes me the most. Yes, I guess in media, we are not to play and I have to remember that. In their case, "Imbestigador" is really a public service media. They told us stories that many people go there to ask for help. I said to myself that I want to be part of them someday. Their work is very stressful, handling problems that are not theirs, sharing news to the people, presenting news without biases, and of course, public service. It's not easy, I thought. But they said that they love what they do, all they have to do is to not let pressures get inside them. They also said to us that they should be the first one to deliver the news to the public. So they have to be alert and open to the people (sources).

Jamming with the news writers of DZBB :)
I really enjoyed our trips/tours and I've learned a lot of things about media. I felt so close to my dreams. Hehe :D The writers of DZBB invite us to do our OJT there, as well as the MBC (where Love Radio is located). Now, I'm quite excited to be hands-on and I even imagine myself working there (whether to TV station or radio station). I want to experience being a DJ, a radio news writer, a camerawoman, a TV host, a director, a  sound technical controller or anything that is connected to media. I don't like to be choosy anymore as long as I'll be enjoying my future work and world in public affairs. Anyway, I still have a lot of obstacles to overcome, school works to finish and training to undergo before I achieve my goals in life.Media, wait for me! :)

estación de visita :) -A tv and radio station visit

I’m sure every one of us already experienced watching a show on television or tuning in to our favorite radio station to listen to our favorite hits. For us, media is already part of our everyday routine. We won’t survive a day without tuning in to either the television or the radio for us to be updated for the latest news and entertainment. But did we ever wonder how these radio stations work just so we can listen to our favorite songs? Or how the people behind our favorite television shows work off cam just so they can give us entertainment? We’ve found the answers to these questions when we had our group visit in a radio station particularly am and fm and to a television show. The feeling of excitement and amazement that we felt as we visit each station was really exceptional. I considered it as one of my most favorite activity in my college years. J

SHOWTIME
We first had Showtime as our television station visit. Even if the show will not start until 10:30am, we were already asked to go there by 8:30am. While we were outside the ABS-CBN building, the feeling of excitement can be felt to each and every one of us. It is truly recognizable that even I can’t hold the feeling of excitement that I was feeling that time. To be honest, it’s my first time to visit such tv station and it’s also my first time to watch a t.v show that is why I had mixed emotions while I was there waiting.

When we were already inside the studio, the hosts entertained us while we’re waiting for the time to start the show. They first made us sing and they also made us dance. They made us release our inner energy that it’s as if it’s already overflowing.  There are a lot of cameras in the studio so that they can get every angle that they need when on air that is why we were really excited to be spotted by the camera. As they show was about to go on air, people off cam became more pressured and more bothered. They’re as fast as a mouse when working at the backstage of the studio and when making signals to each and every hosts and participants in the show. The hosts on air have either a manila paper where they read the scripts that they need and sometimes, they have a projector that slides all the script that they should deliver.  We really had a lot of fun even if it’s very exhausting. We got a chance to see and take some pictures with the stars like Billy Crawford, Jugs and Teddy, and especially Vice Ganda. J

MISSYHISTA on board

LOVE RADIO

When we went to MBC to have our studio tour, we were toured to all the radio stations there but our target station is 90.7 love radio. We were surprised when we saw that the booth for love radio was only occupied by 1 DJ. That time “Missy Hista” was the dj on board. When we asked her why is she alone in the booth, she said that one person can already supervise and hold a show on air. Everything inside the booth were already operated by buttons so it’s easier for the DJs to supervise the program on their own. When we were interviewing her, She told us that to be a dj, you have to be super playful in portraying your character. You have to set a very lively mood so that they can attract more listeners . We were amazed when she started on air. How she was very different from the time that we were talking to her to the time when she’s already on air. She's totally different. But it’s totally impressive.
We even got a chance to take a picture with Papa Jack, the most famous dj of love radio. I notice that most of the djs of the fm stations where bubbly and lively also off board. Maybe it’s one characteristic that I recognize on those DJs. Be bubbly as bubbly as possible :)

 AM STATION
with my idol. Mr. Joel Reyes Zobel

groupmates with the writers of DZBB

kuya Germs at DZBB

Our last stop for our visit was GMA’s AM station DZBB. I personally chose this AM station for I knew that Mike Enriquez and Joel Reyes Zobel , two of the news anchors that I admire the most. We had our studio tour last Friday, September 23, 2011 and we can say that we really enjoyed our tour here at DZBB.

When we went to the station of DZBB, we saw Kuya Germs on board as the anchor of DZBB.. We were so happy because they were so warm to us. One thing that I noticed with the difference of am and an fm station is that in am, there is no less than 2persons inside the booth unlike in fm, the dj can stay by himself/herself inside the booth. They told us it is because when they’re reporting, especially of it’s a live broadcast, the anchor needs an assistant to get all the flash reports to be announced on air.
We also got a chance to interview 4 of the writers of the Imbestigador sa DZBB and they gave us some advices about their track. They said that, “In media, you have to be dedicated.” We even met Mr. Joel Reyes Zobel, my idol. he’s such a great news anchor and also very dedicated to his work. Dedication is the key to effective public service. In AM station, you need to have goals to update the mass about the latest news that’s happening in our country. Every staff in the AM station booth is paying attention to every news that they’ll get. Everything should be fair that’s what they aim for.

Because of these experiences, I became more excited about the challenges that I will face in my later years in Mass Communication. These tours taught me a lot about media. It also gave me the view of what I wanted to take in the future. I'm still convinced to take up Broadcasting Journalism as my Minor Track for i know this is what i will love to do and i know being in the tv station is more challenging that the radio station..I really want to be a broadcaster and i want to be an instrument of change for everybody. I can feel that Mass Communication is really the course for me and I will strive hard to continue this journey until I can reach my goal.

"Artistic Imagination"

August 25, 2011, the day when we went to Bonifacio Global City attend Manila Art 2011 Fair and to witness the beautiful works of art by our national artists. Before we left St. Scho, I’m so worried because I left my camera. I even called my brother to send the camera for me all the way from Valenzuela City. As expected, I will be scolded but luckily, he really went to Vito Cruz to give me my camera (the best brother!). I was relieved when I finally made it to the van where others are waiting. Maybe if I was delayed by one minute, they will already leave me there.
I was thrilled, surprised and shocked as I look to each and every painting and sculpture that they had in there. It’s totally amazing that such artists can express their selves and can make a very beautiful paintings and sculptures. I really enjoyed it so much, but of all the art figures that I saw when we made a visit there, 2 artworks really caught my eyes.

First is this photo:
This photo actually took my attention from the very beginning. It was entitled, “Phobia” by Jaspher Penuliar. If you’re going to look at the photo, it’s about a boy with a scary expression on his face
And it is caused by the phobia that he’s feeling. His phobia can’t be necessarily a ghost. It can be also because he had a tragedy or an unforgettable experience from his past that is why he’s suffering from it now. The uniqueness and the feeling of suspense made me love that painting even more. While looking closely at the painting, I noticed that he had this red ribbon tied on his left wrist. I tried to search for its significance and I found out that it is a symbol from the teachings of Kabbalah to protect from the influences of the “Evil Eye”, a powerful negative force. So it’s like the child is scared of something that bothers him but all he can do was scream and run and hide and wear that red ribbon, but he won’t be able to survive there.
If I’m going to make a movie about this concept, I would say that I’m going to make a horror film entitled “Don’t move”. J This will be about a new transferred teacher named Jen that will be the adviser of the students in 4th grade. She didn’t have a hard time being friendly with all her students except for a boy named John who doesn’t get along well with others and just sits at the side of the corner and not talk to other people. She tried to know more about John until she found out that there is some kind of evil spirit that is bothering him from his childhood. When Jen found out about his problem, she was shocked because she also experienced this kind of problem in her childhood. It’s like she’s encountering a Déjà vu. Being concerned with John, she cannot decide if she’ll just leave John behind and let him suffer to that evil spirit that’s haunting him or she’ll face her fears and also help John face his fears so that he can be free from this evil spirit. At the end, Jen overcome her fears and they prevent the evil spirit in haunting John but as a consequence, the evil spirit transferred to Jen. Jen was killed by the evil spirit at the end.

The other painting that caught my attention is this beautiful painting of a girl in the veranda with lots and lots of flowers. She’s sitting there while playing his favorite instrument. When my friend and I were talking about this painting, my friend told me that someone told her that this painting was only drew from the painter’s memory about his love one. It’s truly amazing that painters can actually visualize their art only from their mind and they can draw it so well.  Paintings like this made me feel relax because it looks calm and it’s very detailed. It’s as if you are really looking at the real scene of the painting.
With this painting, I thought that if I will make a movie about this, it will surely be the fantasy and the magical cartoon type of film. It will be about a boy name Ken who works as a musician but loves painting as his hobby. One fine Sunday, he decided to paint and his painting turned out exactly like the painting above. When he’s about to make some finishing touch, her bad stepMother, a lucky charm-type of mom asked him to go to the Spell’s store to pick up her orders. Being the obedient type of son, he went there to pick up the orders. When the owner of the store saw him, she weirdly stares on Ken and she was saying about true love but be careful for he might lose it in the end. Ken didn’t believe in her. Before he leaves, the store owner gave him a charm. When he arrived home, he threw the charm to the same place where the painting stands.
Ken wasn’t aware that the charm has magic and it made the painting in real life.So everyday, the girl popped out from the painting and became alive but she always return to the painting at night. When Ken spent more and more time with her, He felt that it's true love that he's feeling when he's with her. At the end , when the moon is out, and the girl is in the form of the painting, his stepmother went to his room. they had an argument and because his stepmom got pissed, she threw the painting and it broke. Ken weeped so hard for he lost his one and true love but luckily the women in the spell shop turned out to be a Fairy God Mother and she fixed the painting made the girl in the painting permanently living as a human and they live happily ever after.

Everything Behind

Television Station: Showtime Studio

Last September 17, 2011, our group decided to hold our studio tour in ABS-CBN particularly in Showtime.  As I look back and remember that day, I still feel the excitement I had. That was my first time to actually be in a TV station building and my first time as well to be in a TV studio as part of the live audience. We arrived at ABS-CBN’s audience entrance at around 8 o’clock in the morning and lined up there. We were asked to make a poster that specifies from what school we were from. We also had the chance to vote who the “burado” will be. There, we also took pictures of ourselves together with our showtime contestants to shorten the time of waiting. Guards and marshalls roamed around the waiting area to assist us, Showtimers. They also gave guidelines of what to do as soon as we are inside (and that includes waving and smiling to the camera).

It's Shotime, Group Six! :)

When we were already asked to enter, even more excitement grew inside of me. I was really stunned as I saw the people handling the equipments and machines used for the show. They looked very professional. That is, then, the exact time when I said to myself that I want to be just like them.

We entered the studio of showtime. We were already entertained when Mel Feliciano and his assistant grabbed the microphone and started cracking jokes. They also taught us dance steps to the songs that will be played during the show itself.

The show began. We were all anxious to be seen in the cameras; but more than that, we were all very anxious to be have our pictures taken with some of the famous personalities there like Vhong Navarro, Billy Crawford, Jugs and Teddy and etc.

Our trip in the TV station gave me a more vivid idea of what my future will be if I decide to pursue Broadcast Journalism. Everything that I saw was very technical that scared me a bit. Although it was very tiring and the people there, starting from the guards to the hosts, were not warm and were very strict, I still enjoyed the trip.
                                                                                                          Frequency Modulation Station: Love Radio

September 21, 2011, Wednesday, is the day we went to the FM Station 90.2, Love Radio. There, as Sir James, the HR officer of MBC, assisted us, we met Miss Thea, commonly known as "Missyhista". I have learned lots in the tour. I have even been encouraged to have my On-the-job training there. I have learned that the broadcasters of Love Radio do not constantly change. One slot will only be be replaced once a broadcaster resigns. I have also learned that they did not have holidays except for Holy Week. I felt very privileged to have been given the chance to speak with those warm people in the Manila Broadcasting Corporation (MBC). Now, I have learned to give more attention to radios after knowing that much effort from good brains made those programs possible.

GMA, Kapusong totoo!

Group Six Striking a Pose with the writers of Imbestigador
With Kuya Germs after being on-board

Out of all the station visits that I have encountered, this one's the best. We went here last Friday, September 23, 2011. The people in the station were very nice and they have taught us a lot. This experience with GMA, since I am not a Kapuso, triggered me to give this station a chance; because it, really, is another station we should never miss. The radio station of DZBB is very fast. They have showed us how they gather information and disseminate it to the people. This is a very crucial station since people in this field gather the best facts possible. As a matter of fact, the writers even told us that they always get filed with cases of libel and even receive death threats.

      _

The studio tours, as a whole, was not only loads of fun but also very informative. I know I will go back soon to those places and I wish, when that time comes, I already have the knowledge to be more aware of EVERYTHING BEHIND this beautiful shows and programs that we call art.
